Have you heard of GivingTuesday, a global generosity movement?
GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on December 3rd, and throughout the year.
The initiative was first started seven years ago, with the idea of promoting good deeds on a large scale. Over just a few years, the movement flourished, with hundreds of millions of people choosing to participate world-wide.
There are many ways to give. Whether it’s volunteering, helping someone, or making a donation to a charitable cause.
Asha Curran, the co-founder a CEO of the movement had this to say:
GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to drive progress around the causes they care about, not just on one day but throughout the year. With country and community leaders, millions of organizations, and countless givers of all kinds, GivingTuesday is creating a shared space where we can see the radical implications of a more generous world.
Will You Participate This Year?
For those of us living with or loving someone with diabetes, GivingTuesday can be a wonderful opportunity to support a non-profit organization of our choice. There are many ways to help support diabetes awareness, education, research, and outreach, with many organizations striving to improve the lives of people with all types of diabetes, in the US and across the globe.
All throughout last month, we have been featuring some amazing organizations, detailing their mission and diabetes advocacy efforts. Here are just some amazing non-profits that are making a difference every day. Read more about their efforts by clicking on the links below:
You can choose to donate a financial contribution to the foundation of your choice. You can also choose to support their efforts in one or more other ways, such as by attending an event, creating your own fundraiser, and many other specific programs and initiatives. Also, consider using the AmazonSmile program as you begin your holiday shopping this fall:
AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon with the same products, prices, and shopping features as Amazon.com. The difference is that when you shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice.
However, you choose to participate, please join us in celebrating the season of giving! Share what you’re most passionate about when it comes to diabetes advocacy and tell us how you chose to give in the comments below.
